School children to design a mini-float for Pageant
South Australian school children have the opportunity to enter a money cant buy competition to design a mini-float that will appear in the 2009 Credit Union Christmas Pageant on Saturday 14 November.
Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith encourages budding artists and designers aged between five and fourteen to take up the challenge of designing the mini-float.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for students to become involved in the 2009 Credit Union Christmas Pageant," Dr Lomax-Smith says.
"Our aspiring artists and designers of the future have the chance to see their ideas made into reality."
One design will be chosen by a panel of judges and will be built by the Credit Union Christmas Pageant team at Stardust Castle, home of the Pageant.
The judging panel will be looking for original designs with no branded characters or signage to be used, such as cartoon characters or themes from movies and musicals.
"Thanks to the six sponsoring credit unions, the winning student will receive a $500 prize for their school, as well as an invitation to Stardust Castle to see the progress on construction," Dr Lomax-Smith says.
"All design entries must be received by Tuesday 30 June 2009."
The theme for the mini-float competition is fantasy and fairytales. A mini-float is a small mobile set that is light enough to be pushed or pulled along the Pageant route.

"The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is an Adelaide institution and it is important to encourage the creativity and excitement of young people to enhance their experiences of this historic event," says Dr Lomax-Smith.
The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is owned and managed by Events South Australia (the events division of the South Australian Tourism Commission) and sponsored by six leading credit unions in South Australia Savings & Loans, Australian Central, Community CPS Australia, Police, Powerstate, and Satisfac.
