Christmas Stocking Stretch Limo Makes Debut
In an event first, the 2009 Credit Union Christmas Pageant will feature a vibrant eight-metre long stretch limousine with a difference!
On Credit Union Christmas Pageant Day (14 November), a one tonne ute that has been converted into a limousine will hit Adelaides city streets carrying an impressive four metre high stocking and 12 living dolls .
Credit Union Christmas Pageant Creative Director and Event Manager , Brian Gilbertson, said that the event was looking for an innovative way to deliver the traditional Christmas Stocking to the people of South Australia.
"The new Christmas Stocking is a vision that will catch your breath and is definitely a sight to behold," said Brian Gilbertson.
Designer Kees van Driel has once again brought a new sense of style to the Credit Union Christmas Pageant with this unique and memorable design.
"When I saw the initial design I was blown away. Whilst there have been challenges building this float, this project has been a real labour of love for everyone and you can see that in the finished product," says Gilbertson.
The Christmas Stocking limousine will be driven by special drivers - two giant dolls wearing Christmas hats.
Chair of the Credit Union Pageant Company, Peter Evers, said credit must go to the team at Stardust Castle who have brought Kees van Driels vision to life.
"Theres no doubt that the Christmas Stocking float will impress spectators this year as its possibly one of the most exciting projects undertaken by the workshop to date, aside from the new Father Christmas Float in 2007,"said Peter Evers.
Evers continued, "The incredible design displays the Credit Union Christmas Pageants ability to not only pay homage to tradition, but also shows how the event can move with the times!"
The Christmas Stocking has been built from the ground up to include mechanical modifications and extensive amounts of carpentry to bring it all to life. The polished, colourful paint-work is the finishing touch.
The Christmas Stocking limousine can be seen on the road for the first time on Wednesday 28 October 2009 from 11.30 am as it makes its way through Rundle Mall (entering from Pulteney Street with a brief stop at the Malls Balls).
