It's time to get ready for the 2018 Credit Union Christmas Pageant!

The Pageant is so close now that it's time to get yourself organized. Pageant Day is always a day full of fun, magic and joy, but it's important to get prepared so that you can enjoy the day.

We've made it nice and easy for you, and put together a little checklist that you can make your way through to ensure you are prepared for the Pageant. Make sure you check it twice!

The Day Before the Pageant

✔  Confirm who you are going to the Pageant with.

Are you going with friends, family, or both? Will there be kids with you? Make sure you know who you're going to the Pageant with, and who you'll be responsible for. This will also tell you how much space you need behind the Blue Honour Line

✔  Decide where you're going to sit

There's 3.3 kilometeres of Pageant Route, so you should know where you're going to head first thing in the morning! This will make it easier to know how you're getting into the city, where you'll park or where you need to get off on Public Transport. Remember that the Pageant starts on South Terrace and finishes on North Terrace, so if you think you might like to leave earlier in the morning, King William St before Victoria Square is the way to go. If you want to see Father Christmas close the Pageant and all of the excitement and celebrations, sit closer to North Terrace and Rundle Mall.

Remember that traditionally, the Pageant Earlybirds who arrive in the early hours of the morning get the front row spots right at the Blue Honour Line, so we always say arriving early is your best bet for nabbing a good spot! We can't guarantee any spots or areas, so if you're interested in being an Earlybird we've got a Survival Guide for you!

✔  How are you getting to the Pageant?

There are lots of ways to get into the city for the Pageant, but it's important to have a plan so that you don't run late or get stressed out on Pageant Day! If you are planning on driving and parking, be aware that there are road closures throughout the city, which may restrict some routes and on-street parking options.
You can park in selected UParks for a flat rate on Pageant Day, but be sure to check their websites for opening times and rates. You can also book online to reserve your spot!
Public Transport is a great way to avoid the traffic on the day! Routes and stops are changed though, so be sure to check the details to make sure you don't get caught out!

✔  Pack your Pageant bags!

It's important to have all the right gear with you for the Pageant so you don't have to run around or leave your position. We recommend packing the following;

  • Blankets, rugs, low folding chairs and cushions - comfy things to sit on!
  • Clothes to keep warm, and sun smart! It may be cool in the morning and become warmer as the Pageant starts, so it's best to be prepared for both climates!
  • A plastic poncho. There's always the slight chance it could rain, even though the forecast is looking good, and an umbrella may get in people's view.
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat! You should always  be sun smart, even when it's cloudy.
  • Plenty of water in reusable water bottles. You can fill them up for free at the SA Water Quench Benches when your water runs out!
  • Snacks. It's a long, but exciting, morning at the Pageant, so make sure you have a few snacks to keep you going.
  • Colourful chalk. While you wait for the Pageant to start it's a great time to draw on the road with chalk, and you can pick up a big bucket for just $2 or $3 at most stores.

✔  Plan your day!

Now's the time to set your alarm and negotiate who's going early to save the spot, if not your whole group! Traditionally many Pageant People begin to arrive from 6.00am, with the Pageant officially starting at 9.30am.

You should also arrange with you group a meeting spot and time for both before the Pageant and after it's finished, in case you get separated.

✔  Follow us on Instagram!

The Credit Union Christmas Pageant social media channels on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are the best places to go for updates on the Pageant, as well as awesome behind-the-scenes excitement on Pageant Day. Be following our social media so you don't miss a thing.

If you're posting on social media as well, make sure to tag us and use the hashtag #cupageant so we can see all of your wonderful Pageant moments!

On Pageant Day

✔ Take a photo of any children you have with you, and write your phone number on their arm.

If any of the kids with you on Pageant Day go for a wander, the best way to find them is to have a photo of how they look on the day, as well as them having your phone number on them so you can be contacted right away. You can also introduce your child or children to the nearest police offers or security guards, so they know who to go to if they lose sight of you!

✔ Arrive in your position, set up your seating, and locate the nearest public toilets.

Once you've found your all important spot, remember that a Pageant Day tradition is to let all of the kids sit at the front behind the Blue Honour Line. We can all remember being a little one and finding it difficult to see past the crowds! If you're arriving super early, remember to wait for all of the road closures to take place before you set up!

It's also great to know where your closest toilets are. Our Route Map - which you can download to have on you - has the locations of the toilets nearest to the Pageant Route, so you can know where they are in case anyone needs to go at a flash!

✔ Have some pre-Pageant fun!

Before the Pageant starts is one of the most exciting parts of the day! You can chat to your fellow Pageant People, take photos, and maybe even go on a coffee run! This is also the best time for the kids to have some fun drawing with their chalk on the Pageant Route, as once the Pageant starts everyone must remain behind the Blue Honour Line!

✔ ENJOY THE PAGEANT!

You've gotten organized, you've arrived, and now is that magical and special time - the Pageant begins! During the Pageant, you should have lots of fun, high-five all of the clowns and characters, blow kisses and wave (save some BIG waves for Father Christmas) and enjoy this special and joyous time.

While the Pageant is on, remember to stay behind the Blue Honour Line so that everyone stays safe. There are certain areas where you can go across the route, but look out for these and wait for a Pageant official to assist you.
