There are fewer things better during the festive season than sitting down and enjoying a Christmas movie to really get in the Christmas mood!

There are so many fantastic movies to enjoy over the holidays – some that will make you laugh, and some that might make you cry (happy tears of course!)

We’ve wrapped up our Top 10 Christmas movies that the family can enjoy together this Christmas. Have we missed your favourite? Make sure to let us know!

Elf (2003)

Will Ferrell is a favourite actor for many, but in this family friendly we see adopted elf Buddy discover the big wide world in New York, on a journey to find his father. It seems that all it takes is a loving elf to remind everyone what Christmas cheer is all about, and that there’s a little kid in all of us that just wants to celebrate Christmas.

Home Alone (1990)

There are few people out there who can’t quote at least one line from Home Alone! Kevin is accidentally left alone while his parents go on holiday, and he's left to defend his home from some nasty, but clumsy, robbers! Through some weird and wonderful experience Kevin discovers what Christmas and family is really all about.

The Santa Clause (1994)

After Father Christmas falls from his roof, Scott must take his place and deliver all of the presents for Christmas. Tim Allen is a favourite actor in many family movies, and makes sure this one is a good laugh!

Polar Express (2004)

This children’s classic is enjoyable for the whole family thanks to the beautiful animation of this film, based on the enchanting children's book. A young boy finds The Polar Express parked outside his outside his house, and finds out he's been picked to receive the first gift of Christmas in the North Pole!

The Nightmare before Christmas (1993)

Tim Burton’s films are certainly unique, so this is a cartoon with a difference. In a Halloween sort of style, we follow the Pumpkin King Jack Skellington as he discovers how much he loves Christmas. Lots of great music in this one as well!

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation (1989)

A family classic, there’s nothing quite like seeing a hilarious family road trip. There are a few things in the way of Clark Griswold's perfect Christmas, so it's a bit of chaos as it all unfolds! This one is better for the older kids in the family!

Frozen (2013)

Who doesn't know a child who knows the words to every single song in Frozen? Not many of us! Princess Elsa accidentally brings a permanent Winter with her chilling powers, and together with her sister Anna must work with a friendly snowman to save the kingdom from eternal winter!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

It’s a definite fact that none of us are too old to laugh at Jim Carrey’s version of the Grinch in the 2000 film about the mean creature who hates Christmas! The costumes, sets and just about everything in the film is so beautiful to watch, but has a heart warming ending to get you in the mood for Christmas Day!

Jingle all the Way (1996)

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as workaholic dad Howard, who goes on a pretty crazy journey to get a Turboman Doll for his son Jamie. He gets himself into quite a lot of trouble, so this movie is filled with plenty of laughs! There are plenty of great quotes to remember, so this one is great to watch with the family!

A Christmas Carol (2009)

This beautifully animated take on the classic Charles Dickens series is full of imagination and magic. There are so many beautiful extravagant scenes in this classic tale, with the very recognisable Jim Carrey animated into Ebenezer Scrooge.

An extra one, just for Mum and Dad...

Love Actually (2003)

There are fewer movies that are so globally loved, but Love Actually is an absolute classic no matter what time of year it is, but especially at Christmas time. With a series of intertwining stories and relationships, Love Actually reminds us that Love actually, is all around, and that Christmas is the time for telling people you love them (who can forget the cue-card scene). It’s filled with funny moments, some sad moments, and some that will really make you feel (how about that opening scene!).
