Billy Bulldozer and Look what Toad got for Christmas were the two magical new floats unveiled today as the countdown begins to the 2014 Credit Union Christmas Pageant.
In an event first Rundle Mall and the newly developed Gawler Place Canopy were the stage for the Credit Union Christmas Pageant magic with entertainment by The Band of South Australia Police Band, clowns, the Pageant Royal Family, Toby Toy Truck and more.
Hitaf Rasheed, General Manager, Events South Australia said the Pageant was thrilled to be able to hold today’s launch for the first time in Rundle Mall, making the festivities and fun accessible to the wider public.
“The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is more than just one day of the year for us and we are glad we could share it today with the public. We are looking forward to extending the life of the Pageant beyond the parade itself in November through our new partnership with Rundle Mall.”
Brian Gilbertson, Event Manager and Creative Director officially announced the theme for this year’s event ’Share the Pageant with Someone you Love’ at today’s launch in Rundle Mall.
“During its 82-year history this treasured South Australian event has created a sense of family. There are many types of family and the Pageant welcomes everyone and recognises that diversity enriches our communities,” Mr Gilbertson said.
Look what Toad got for Christmas is a Wind in the Willows inspired creation, an ode to classic children’s literature and Billy Bulldozer is sure to become a firm faveourite with the boys, joining his buddies Toby Toy Truck and Bruto as one of the event’s iconic character floats.
Peter Evers, Chair, Credit Union Christmas Pageant Company, said the credit unions were once again looking forward to the big day in November as they celebrate their 19th year of sponsorship of the event.
“We love the Credit Union Christmas Pageant and are always looking at ways to widen the experience for the community beyond just Pageant Day. This year we have created The Great Elf Hunt on our new phone app, available for download from today to encourage families to explore the city and have some fun,” Mr Evers said.
“The plan is for kids to help Father Christmas find Jolly before the Credit Union Christmas Pageant. You will be given clues that will take you to various locations in the Adelaide CBD and you can post your successes on to social media to go in the running for a great prize. This is the Christmas Pageant’s own version of the ever popular geocaching.”
‘Share the Pageant with Someone you Love’ in 2014 and bring your biggest smiles and waves. More than 300,000 people are expected to welcome Father Christmas to Adelaide on Saturday 8 November 2014 as he makes his way from South Terrace to the Magic Cave at David Jones.
In 2014 the Pageant will be travelling a slightly different route. With the completion of building works in Victoria Square and parts of the city, the route will once again pass the Hilton Adelaide in Victoria Square and return to Grenfell Street. Event organisers encourage pageant-goers to study the route map carefully.
The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is owned and managed by the South Australian Tourism Commission on behalf of the South Australian Government and sponsored by People’s Choice Credit Union, Beyond Bank Australia, Credit Union SA and Police Credit Union.
