Thanks to Adelaide Metro and the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure, there will be FREE public transport on Pageant Day.

This applies to the first service of the day until 2.00 pm for all buses, trams and trains.

Additional services

Tram services will not operate in the city during the Pageant from the first service until the Pageant finishes at approximately 1.00pm. Additional trams will operate before and after the Pageant. Trams from Glenelg terminate at South Terrace and from the Entertainment Centre at the Adelaide Railway Station before 1.00pm (approx)

Extra Bus services will operate. Download your temporary timetables here. Adelaide Hills, Outer South and Outer North services operated by Southlink will run additional services on demand.

Extra Train services will operate. Download your temporary timetable here.

Detours and closures

Due to extensive road closures for the Pageant, many Adelaide Metro services will be required to detour from first services until the completion of the Pageant at approximately 1.00pm. Many bus stops will be closed.

View your closed and alternative bus stop information here.

View the complete list of Adelaide Metro bus detours here.

Here are some handy tips to ensure the best public transport experience

1. Check your timetable

FREE transport will be effective from the first service on Saturday 18 November, so you can arrive in the city at the first opportunity. You can see your departure times at the Adelaide Metro website here.

2. Your regular service will terminate or detour near the Pageant route

Normally get off your bus on Grenfell Street? Perhaps your favourite tram top is in Victoria Square? Well on Pageant Day, you won't be able to stop there.

Buses will detour around the city to specific termination points near the Pageant route. You can find out where on the Adelaide Metro website here.

Trams will terminate at South Terrace (from Glenelg) and Adelaide Railway Station (from the Adelaide Entertainment Centre).

3. So give yourself plenty of time!

It's never too early to get to the city to get your favourite spot on the route, and we all know space gets taken pretty quickly, so make sure you know when your Adelaide Metro service leaves and, most importantly, where it arrives.

4. Be conscientious of other transport users

Pageant Day is busy! Adelaide Metro and the Credit Union Christmas Pageant appreciate your understanding in folding down prams when using public transport, observing the no smoking status of undercover bus shelters, and helping those who require a seat.

You can find more travel behaviour tips here.

Some road closures for the Credit Union Christmas Pageant Day start from 5.00am, with full closure of all roads along the Pageant route taking place from 6am.

To keep everyone safe, some roads on the Pageant Route may be closed earlier at the discretion of the South Australian Police.

Keep checking our website for updates, or follow us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

Now that you've read all of our important route, transport and accessibilty information, here are some other handy hints for Pageant Day.

  • Study the route map so you know where to go, and bookmark our website so you have a copy on your phone. We'll also send a Pageant Day email to our subscribers, so make sure you join the mailing list on our homepage here.
  • Arrive early to get the best spot.
  • Arrange a meeting spot and a time to meet up in case you and your group are separated during the day.
  • For security reasons, please do not leave any bags or personal items unattended. If you see any suspicious items or behaviour, please report it to Police, Pageant officials or security at the event.
  • Bring some colourful chalk to decorate the Pageant route while you wait for the starting whistle.
  • Bring plenty of snacks (but leave the barbecue at home).
  • Bring plenty of cool drinking water - freeze a water bottle the night before for an icy treat.
  • Bring blankets, rugs, low folding chairs and cushions to sit on (leave your ladders, scaffolding and pop-up shelters at home).
  • Please avoid using an umbrella while the Pageant is passing - if wet, bring a waterproof jacket or poncho.
  • Wait until the roads are closed to set up your blankets and rugs behind the Blue Honour Line.
  • Let children sit at the front behind the Blue Honour Line for the best view.
  • Please do not smoke around children.
  • Be sun smart and Slip, Slop, Slap.
  • Visit a Credit Union Car to get a fun wristband for your child - phone numbers can be easily written on them.
  • Take a photo of your child on your phone or digital camera on the morning of the Pageant - it's much easier than trying to remember what they were wearing!
  • Introduce your child to the nearest police officer so they know who to go to if they become lost.
  • Locate the nearest public toilets.
  • Have lots of fun!
